Brasstown Bald Mountain

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Yesterday (Sunday) me and my parents took a drive to Brasstown Bald Mountain. What’s so special about it?

Brasstown Bald is the highest point in the state of Georgia, USA, with a summit elevation of 4,784 feet (1,458 m) above mean sea level. It is also the highest point in the Deep South (as distinguished from the Upper South).” (Source)

They also say you can see across.. what, 3? 4? states at its peak. It really is a breathtaking sight.

I’ve included some of the best pictures we took below (ignore the time stamp, that’s broken somehow):

I don’t want to kill people’s computers, so I also linked to a Flickr set I made with the pictures I took:

Ubuntu Global Jam is a event, organized by individual people or LoCo teams for their area, held on October 2-4th of every year, where individuals of the community come together and collaboratively contribute to Ubuntu in your own way. Bug triaging is just one, there are many topics that you could handle. Many things, often great, get accomplished at these events.

The Wiki page on the topic can explain it better than I ever can: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam

Ubuntu Forums Unanswered Posts Meeting of September 26, 2009 Summary

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The Ubuntu Forums Unanswered Posts Team convened on September 26, 2009 to discuss the following issues:

  • Future Of The Team;
  • Activity within Ubuntu;
  • Team Communication

The meeting was chaired by team leader Hellow (Collin Pruitt), and took (approximately) 45 minutes. The meeting took place in the team channel #ubuntuforums-unanswered and 5 team members participated.

We welcomed two new members, starcraftman (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/starcraft.man/) and zvacet (https://edge.launchpad.net/~zvacet), into the team.

There was a policy change: All members are strongly suggested to subscribe to the team mailing list, which can be found on our Launchpad page.

Purging of the team IRC channel access lists of inactive members, as planned, will occur later on after the meeting.

Meeting logs can be found at http://hellow.pastebin.com/f3281c42e

Thank you to those of you who attended!

Sickness and all that fun stuff

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Man, I was on a roll with my blogging. Dangit.

Somehow I managed to catch the flu twice in the span of two weeks, and this latest time I cought a cold right afterward. So I have been fairly inactive with the Ubuntu community; However, that is soon to change.

On a happier topic, the UA team will be having a meeting in just over an hour after the publishing of this post. Information on the meeting and what occurred during it will be posted afterward.

Also, to those curious, the meeting for the UA team will be occurring in the UA team channel :)

Hot Pockets

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

I was inspired by me eating Hot Pockets and then remembering that a lot of people I know live off Hot Pockets to make this blog post.

As I said above, a lot of the people I know live or nearly live off Hot Pockets or some kind of snack food. I have always wondered how/why this is. Hot Pockets are extremely popular among the geek type, but I can’t figure out why. Is it because they are fast/easy to cook? Post your reason for loving Hot Pockets, or any snack food, in a comment below.
