Here’s something for the season, whether the season is fall or winter.
A father’s two children both have Celiac Disease, which is a autoimmune disease that damages the small intestine, causes intolerance of Gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley, and interferes with absorption of nutrients in general.
Because of this, the father in question, Alek Komar, decided to make a website to raise money for Celiac Disease research. They have raised $35,000 to date, and are raising more.
The thing that brings people to the site, which, in turn, brings in money for Celiac Research, is it’s featured “Controllable Lights” which are decorations for either Halloween or Christmas that are controllable via. a web-based X10 interface. Each section of christmas lights, the house front, their lawn, and their garage, are all shown via. specially-placed webcams.
The interface also contains a function to “Instant Message” other viewers. This works, from my understanding, by the interface updating a HTML page and then a laptop in the range of the garage webcam updates rapidly. A extremely simple solution.
The webcams & interface are on from 1800 to 2200 MDT (GMT-6).
