Ubuntu Forums Unanswered Posts Team Update

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

This Sunday, I have done quite a many things in relation to the Ubuntu Forums Unanswered Posts Team, the team I colead. The two biggest ones are:

  • The addition of a official Twitter feed with associated bot placed in the IRC chat. All UA members and others interested are suggested to follow @uateam and/or subscribe to the RSS feed provided by Twitter
  • The addition of a official team news blog at http://ua.codechunk.net/blog . All UA members are requested to subscribe to the RSS feed at the bottom of the page or, if your RSS reader does not like the method the software uses to publish feeds, you can subscribe to the Feedburner feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/UbuntuForumsUnansweredPostsTeamNews . All further news on the team is to be published there. Keep in mind that the news blog is on my home server so, if it gets taken out, so will the feed. The Feedburner feed will remain, though.
  • That should be all for now. For those subscribed to the Launchpad Team mailing list, you will be getting a post in your email inboxes sometime later tonight.

    Hoping that his home server does not crash,
    Collin Pruitt

    EDIT: Upon further reflection, I moved the team blog to http://ua.codechunk.net/blog . Thanks for the hosting, Jacob!

    Geocities Shuts Down

    Monday, October 26th, 2009

    Geocities Logo

    With great sadness, one of the original hosting services of the web is shutting down tomorrow due to internal Yahoo! budget cuts.

    Until the cutoff, you are free to download your site onto your computer. All data will be deleted after the cutoff, though.

    The Archive Team is attempting to save as many pages as they can from Geocities before the lights go out on the service.

    Mashable has a great article on this event: http://mashable.com/2009/10/25/geocities-closes-2/

    XKCD has also altered their site to emulate a… badly well designed Geocities website (It nearly froze Firefox): http://xkcd.com/

    Ubuntu Global Jam

    Ubuntu Global Jam is a event, organized by individual people or LoCo teams for their area, held on October 2-4th of every year, where individuals of the community come together and collaboratively contribute to Ubuntu in your own way. Bug triaging is just one, there are many topics that you could handle. Many things, often great, get accomplished at these events.

    The Wiki page on the topic can explain it better than I ever can: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam

    The Ubuntu Forums Unanswered Posts Team convened on September 26, 2009 to discuss the following issues:

    • Future Of The Team;
    • Activity within Ubuntu;
    • Team Communication

    The meeting was chaired by team leader Hellow (Collin Pruitt), and took (approximately) 45 minutes. The meeting took place in the team channel #ubuntuforums-unanswered and 5 team members participated.

    We welcomed two new members, starcraftman (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/starcraft.man/) and zvacet (https://edge.launchpad.net/~zvacet), into the team.

    There was a policy change: All members are strongly suggested to subscribe to the team mailing list, which can be found on our Launchpad page.

    Purging of the team IRC channel access lists of inactive members, as planned, will occur later on after the meeting.
